1. What is District 4 Toastmasters?

District 4 Toastmasters is the organization that represents Toastmasters clubs in part of the San Francisco Bay area. 2. Is this just a group for people who speak English?

No. There are several bilingual clubs in District 4 including Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese clubs. Toastmasters International publishes a complete set of materials in English and basic materials in French, Spanish, and Japanese. As translators make themselves available, more materials are translated.

Many people join Toastmasters to improve their English, it is not necessary to be fluent.

3. How does one join Toastmasters?

Clubs are the core unit of the organization. There are company clubs, community clubs, and advanced clubs. Find some clubs, go and visit them, choose one and join. Toastmasters clubs welcome all visitors but there are some that are reserved for their sponsoring companies employees only. There are others that have some entrance formalities due to security procedures. It is always a good idea to contact the club in advance by calling or emailing the contact person listed for a club. If there is ever a problem getting hold of a contact person or a club contact us immediately via email at webmaster@d4tm.org or the feedback form.

4. Are there events open to the public where I can check this out?

Yes. Visitors are always welcome at meetings but clubs also host open houses, Speechcraft sessions, and special events and workshops that are open to everyone. Watch the District 4 website or join the mailing list to get announcements of these. There are Conferences and Speech Contests that are open to all. more in the Events area »
