‘Admit it. You became the Vice President, Public Relations because it sounds glamorous'. That was my opening line when I trained newly elected VPss of PR. Some laughed, all nodded. We may not be professionally trained in roles like PR, yet we take on the challenge of serving as club officers. When we succeed, we feel the rush. The exhilaration a VP of PR feels on turning a guest into a member is unparalleled! That is the power of the Toastmasters program – enabling a member to discover and develop a communication and leadership skill.

It is an exciting time in Toastmasters! TI will introduce its new brand at the International Convention in Las Vegas, NV. This is the first rebranding effort in the 86 years history of Toastmasters and will have a strong impact on how people view Toastmasters as an organization.

In District 4 we have a solid public relations program in place already. This website, our presence on major social media channels, the FOURCaster newsletter and our own TV show ‘Bay to Bay’ – are examples of our strong media presence. How do we make this world class PR program even better?

Our biggest PR tool is you – a member of a Toastmasters club in District 4. Every Toastmaster I meet has a success story to tell. These stories are funny, outrageous, entertaining and always inspiring. These encounters with Toastmasters at Club Officers Training, an Area or Division Speech Contest or the District Conference rejuvenate and remind us why we joined Toastmasters. The community of Toastmasters in District 4 (besides including the most talented people in the world) is warm and embracing and roots for you when you stand up and speak before them.

It is when we tell others our success stories that we really ‘do’ PR. Have you told someone about Toastmasters recently? Do you have a success story to tell? Have you felt the rush of emotion as you achieved a personal or professional goal because of Toastmasters? As your Public Relations Officer, I am at your service – let’s go tell them some District 4 success stories!
